Seyedehsan (“Ehsan”) Navabi, MD


Dr. Seyedehsan (“Ehsan”) Navabi is board certified in gastroenterology, obesity and internal medicine. He received his doctorate in medicine from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in Iran in 2008. He served as the head of the healthcare network in Sarayan from his graduation until 2010. He then transitioned to work as Emergency Medicine Physician at Loghman hospital in Tehran, one of the renowned Academic Hospitals in Iran.

Dr. Navabi started his Internal Medicine residency at the Pennsylvania State University in 2013, followed by Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship also at Pennsylvania State University. Upon graduating from the fellowship program, he joined the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School as an Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology in 2019. There he served as director of Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as Director of Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders. Dr. Navabi has continued to be a mentor for Gastroenterology fellows in training at Rutgers. He joined United Medical Doctors in January 2023 and is dedicated to providing unparalleled medical and surgical care for all patients.

Dr. Navabi routinely manages general GI disorders, including disorders of the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, and colon, as well as liver and pancreas disorders. He has expertise in endoscopic procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic indications, including upper GI endoscopy, enteroscopy, colonoscopy and video capsule endoscopy. His Adenoma detection rate (index to measure the quality of screening colonoscopies) has constantly been well above the national average. Also, he performs therapeutic interventions such as endoscopic mucosal resections and managing gastrointestinal bleeding, including variceal and non-variceal bleeding. In addition, Dr. Navabi has extensive experience managing gastrointestinal motility disorders such as GERD, Achalasia, EoE, gastroparesis, functional GI disorders such as dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome and management of complex constipations. He has expertise in performing motility studies such as Ph Studies, including BRAVO and PH/Impedance, Esophageal Manometry, EndoFlip and Anorectal Manometry.

Dr. Navabi specializes in managing inflammatory bowel disease for patients with Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, indeterminate colitis, microscopic colitis, and celiac disease. He routinely manages the care of patients with advanced therapies, including using biologics. He is also board certified in Obesity Medicine and routinely assists patients with weight disorders.

Dr. Navabi has a strong interest in scholarly activities and has extensive publications, especially in the field of IBD. He routinely has presented at national and international IBD conferences. He is also a peer reviewer for multiple prestigious gastroenterology journals.
