    Frequently Asked Questions

What services does UMD Occupational Health offer?

We offer comprehensive occupational health services, including pre-employment physicals, DOT and non-DOT drug and alcohol testing, work-related injury care, employer-mandated physicals, return-to-work evaluations, respirator fit testing, vaccinations, TB testing, and health surveillance programs. Our goal is to keep your workforce healthy, safe, and productive.

Do you offer DOT physicals and drug testing?

Yes. UMD is a certified provider of DOT physical exams and compliant drug and alcohol testing for safety-sensitive positions under FMCSA and other regulatory bodies. We offer all required services including pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.

How do I set up services for my company?

Getting started is easy. Simply contact our Occupational Health Services team through our online request form above, or call us directly to speak with a specialist. We’ll walk you through setting up an employer account, customizing your services, and ensuring compliance with your industry’s requirements.

Do employees need an appointment, or do you accept walk-ins?

Appointments are encouraged for most services to minimize wait times, but we do accept walk-ins for urgent testing and work-related injuries during clinic hours. For DOT physicals and other regulated exams, scheduling in advance is recommended.

What should employees bring with them to their appointment?

Employees should bring a valid photo ID, authorization form, and any forms or documentation provided by their employer. For DOT exams, drivers should bring their current driver’s license, a list of medications, and corrective lenses if applicable. Additional documentation may be needed depending on the service.

How quickly will results be available for drug tests and physicals?

Most drug screen results are available within 24–48 hours. Physical exam results are typically completed within the same day, and a summary can be sent to the employer upon request. Turnaround times may vary based on exam/testing type and lab requirements.

Can I send employees to any UMD location?

At this time, UMD Occupational Health services are available exclusively at our Carlsbad location. We are actively expanding and will be launching services soon in Kearny Mesa, Newport Beach, La Jolla, and Temecula. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to grow and make occupational health more accessible across Southern California.

How do you handle workers’ compensation injuries?

UMD Occupational Health provides prompt, high-quality care for work-related injuries with a focus on recovery and return-to-work. Our team communicates with employers throughout the process, provides timely documentation, and coordinates with specialists when necessary to ensure a smooth recovery.

What industries do you specialize in serving?

We proudly serve a wide range of industries including transportation, construction, logistics, healthcare, education, manufacturing, and government entities. Our providers are experienced in navigating the regulatory needs of highly regulated fields like FAA, FMCSA, and OSHA-covered workplaces.

Do you offer mobile or onsite testing services?

Yes, UMD Occupational Health offers onsite and mobile occupational health services for select clients. This includes onsite drug testing, flu vaccinations, respirator fit testing, and more—designed to minimize downtime and improve compliance. Contact us to discuss your organization’s needs and eligibility.
