James Hwang, MD

Dr. James Hwang is a board-certified general gastroenterologist with extensive clinical experience across multiple healthcare systems, including Yuma Regional Medical Center, Enloe Medical Center in California, Rio Grande Gastroenterology in Texas, Kaiser Permanente Sacramento Medical Center, and Ridgecrest Regional Hospital in California.

He completed his fellowship in gastroenterology and residency in internal medicine through the Sunrise Health GME programs in Las Vegas. Dr. Hwang earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine and holds advanced academic training in biomedical engineering and biochemistry from the University of California, Irvine and UCLA. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

Dr. Hwang specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and associated organs, including the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and bile ducts. He performs a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, and biopsy, and treats conditions including gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, gastrointestinal cancers, and motility and nutritional disorders.

He is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care. Dr. Hwang values clear communication and works collaboratively with patients and fellow providers to develop practical, effective treatment plans and achieve optimal outcomes for both acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions. He remains engaged with current advances in gastroenterology to ensure his patients receive the most up-to-date care.

Dr. Hwang is fluent in Korean, allowing him to better serve a diverse patient population. Outside of clinical practice, he enjoys playing tennis, running, and participating in outdoor activities. He is also actively involved in short-term medical missions abroad, reflecting his commitment to service, compassion, and community engagement.
