Dr. M. Wayne Fleischman

Gastroenterology

Dr. Fleischman is a native of Maryland, where he attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Emory University. During residency, he developed a strong interest in gastroenterology and liver disease and subsequently completed his fellowship training in Digestive Diseases at Emory University. He is board-certified in Gastroenterology.

After completing his fellowship, Dr. Fleischman moved to Southern California in 2014, where he joined the clinical faculty at Harbor-UCLA. In addition to his clinical work in the Los Angeles County safety-net system, Dr. Fleischman held various leadership roles at Harbor-UCLA, including Director of Hepatology, Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, and key clinical faculty member for the Digestive Diseases Fellowship at UCLA. During that time, he conducted clinical research and published articles on topics ranging from outcomes in alcoholic liver disease to the use of artificial intelligence in colon polyp detection.

Throughout his career, Dr. Fleischman has trained numerous gastroenterology fellows in endoscopy and hemostasis at several of the nation’s top programs, including UCLA, Georgetown University, George Washington University, and Cedars-Sinai.

He is excited to be joining United Gastroenterology and looks forward to bringing his extensive clinical experience to patients in Orange County and the surrounding areas. As a general gastroenterologist, Dr. Fleischman manages a wide range of conditions, from colon cancer screening to chronic liver disease. He has years of experience as an endoscopist and is highly skilled in performing upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, and treating GI bleeding.

Outside of work, Dr. Fleischman enjoys spending time with his wife, surfing, playing soccer, fly-fishing, and skiing.
