Anthony C. Pearson, MD, FACC
CARDIOLOGY
Dr. Pearson received his MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He also completed internal medicine and cardiology fellowship training at St. Louis University. Following his fellowship, he was on the faculty at St. Louis University, specializing in clinical and research uses of cardiac ultrasound. He then took a faculty position at The Ohio State University, where he was director of the echocardiographic laboratory and initiated programs in transesopageal echocardiography and stress echocardiography. During his tenure on the faculty at SLU and OSU, he was active in teaching and research and contributed more than 100 research papers to the scientific literature. He spent 20 years in private practice in Louisville, KY, then in St. Louis, MO and in 2020; he took a faculty clinical position at St. Louis University.
Dr. Pearson has a significant interest in preventive cardiology and utilizes cutting-edge biomarker and imaging tools to identify better each individual’s risk for heart attack and stroke. He strives to incorporate the latest pharmaceutical developments along with optimal dietary, lifestyle and exercise practices for an individualized approach to minimizing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease complications.
Dr. Pearson also endorses an enlightened medical approach to the treatment of atrial fibrillation with treatment crafted for the individual. He uses the latest technologies in patient care, including smartphone applications that transmit electrocardiogram results online or track blood pressure changes in response to medication or lifestyle modifications.
He has been named Castle-Connolly Top Doc every year since 2009.
He is a fellow with the American College of Cardiology, an editorial reviewer for the journal Echocardiography, and a columnist for MedPage Today. He has written about nutrition, cardiovascular disease, exercise, statin drugs, and other topics for over 10 years on his website at www.theskepticalcardiologist.com and is actively writing articles on Substack.com. In his spare time, Dr. Pearson plays music on any instrument he can get his hands on, but most often, a guitar or keyboard and recently, a Mele ukulele.
